Aleks' Children's Clothing

Alek standing in front of a white brick wall, holding a string holding 4 baby garments. Left to right light blue romper, watercolor blue dress, off white bloomers and last a little strawberry pattern dress.

When my daughter was little, I made a lot of her clothes – dresses, overalls, coats – and quite a few quilts. As I walked through the store, the sewing patterns for children would catch my eye and I would imagine the cuteness that could be crafted. But then, my inner voice would say, ‘you don’t have any children in your life… why clothes for children?’

When the call went out for samples to be made for this spring, I immediately said I wanted to do a line a children’s clothing. It was right around Easter when I started. Spring, new Easter dresses, hope. It was a perfect project in the middle of COVID-19 quarantine.

I selected a range of different fabrics. I love the Gauze Terrazzo’s light weight and the painter pant splatter design for the baby bloomers. Kokka Double Gauze was a perfect choice for the Smock Top. It is so soft against the skin. The fullness of The Trapezette dress provides a flow that makes the Indigo Field Flowers seem like they are blowing in the wind. And the Teal Strawberries are just plain fun and adorable for the Geranium dress!

On the day I was finishing the last dress, my daughter (the one I used to make clothes for) let me know she was pregnant with her first child. So, now I know why I was pulled to make kid’s clothing!
