Aleks' Classic Flannel

Woman in flannel shirt

When you think of flannel, what thoughts immediately come to mind? For me, I think of my favorite season, autumn, with cooler temperatures, fall leaves, hikes in the backwoods, coziness, the ski area, bonfires, comfort, pajamas, shirts, sheets, hot cocoa (or hot toddy). Oh, the list goes on: Colorado, Oregon, Minnesota, New Hampshire…

When the flannel started arriving in the shop, I jumped on the opportunity to make a new shirt for myself. The Kale colored Shetland Flannel by Robert Kaufman caught both my eye and touch! And since I like all things a bit structured, I opted for the Classic Shirt by Liesl + Co pattern.

The Classic Shirt pattern comes in sizes 0-20 with pattern pieces for three different cup sizes (A/B, C, and D). There are also two different shirt pocket designs to choose from. The pattern was easy to follow with lots of great graphics to help (I find I mostly look at the pictures to sew.)

The flannel is sooo soft and easy to work with! I even enjoyed doing the shirt sleeve placards which, in the past, have been the dreaded point of making a shirt like this. Liesel + Co designed them to be super easy and straightforward.

Although the Kale color is sold out, there are many more colors of Shetland Flannel to choose from. There are also dozens of different plaids and prints if the Shetland doesn't call to you!

I certainly know which colors and patterns are calling to me to make something else – I'm thinking maybe pajamas!
