Amber & Jaime's Twinsie Cottage Hats

Amber and I made twin Cottage Hats! We've known Dawn Henderson (@dawn.landix) for many years as a customer, yarn/fiber dyer, knitter, Spinzilla team spinner, and talented photographer... so when she recently delved into knitwear pattern design, we were thrilled to try out her Cottage Hat pattern. In a few short months, she has released this pattern as well as two sock patterns. Rumor has it she has more exciting patterns in store for us!

Pattern: Cottage Hat by Dawn Henderson
Yarn: Hedgehog Aran in Bee's Knees (Amber) and Zephyr (Jaime)
Size Made: Adult Medium
Modifications: None

Jaime and Amber standing back to back, both wear handknits hats that are white with neon speckles, amber's is yellow speckles and Jaime's is coral, purple and blue speckles. The hats have a textured stitch.

The Cottage Hat is a simple hat with fun texture created by a small, three row cable pattern. I'm happy to report that I finally learned how to cable without a cable needle (thanks to Miriam Felton who happened to be town while I was knitting this). The single stitch cables used in Cottage are great to practice this technique on.

Amber cast-on this hat first in a bright, speckled Hedgehog Merino Aran. Her hat was looking so awesome as she knit, I had to follow suit. I also chose a bright neon-speckled color of Hedgehog Aran and cast on. So so fun. Sometimes, stepping outside your comfort zone can be very rewarding. I love my new hat.

Handknit hat laying flat, it has textured stitches in white yarn speckled with neon yellow, gold and flecks of coral here and there. The crown of the hat has in interesting decreasing pattern, the texture of the stitches come together a little like a flower motif.

I was so in love with this yarn, I had to make a pom pom out of it for the top. The result is a total win and now Amber and I have twinsie Cottage hats!

Thank you Dawn and congrats on your new venture! We're looking forward to seeing all your new designs.

Hi Amanda! It would be so cute in a solid yarn. I’m wearing my Dress no 1. by Sonya Philip

Super cute hat. Love speckles but I feel like I’d really like it in a solid. With a contrasting pom and maybe brim?
Jaime what is the pattern for your top?
