Amber's Pink Pearl Macrame Motif Sweater

Women wearing a Pink Pearl Macrame Motif Sweater

I have a soft spot in my heart for our own hearty line of wool yarn, Heirloom Romney. Recently we worked with producer Jeane Decoster to revamp the yarn. This year's Heirloom was milled at a new mill, which resulted in the pleasant surprise of a softer hand, as well as slightly different blended hues of natural grey from the colorful Romney wool fleeces. The light natural of our new Heirloom is much closer to white—as opposed to the light mid-grey from previous batches. This meant starting from scratch with Heirloom's color palette.

Having an almost-white-grey opened up a world of new possibilities for pale colors in the over-dyed palette. I'm so excited about what this means for colorwork with our new palette of colors, since the yarn itself is so well suited for colorwork. But, after we finalized the new palette of 22 colors, there was one color that I was head over heels for, and it's Pink Pearl. Something about this warm, pale, orangey pink is just so good!

Pink Pearl Macrame Motif Sweater

Pattern: Macrame Motif Sweater by Midori Hirose - smaller neckline version
Materials: Fancy Tiger Heirloom Romney in Pink Pearl (4 skeins)
Size Made: size M2
Gauge: 13 stitches and 21 rows to 4 inches
Modifications: None

I decided to go all in with this color and make myself a Pink Pearl sweater. I have been eyeing the Macrame Motif Sweater by Midori Hirose. I love the delicate texture around the neckline, a perfect fit for the pale peachy wool. The sweater has options for narrow or wide neck—I chose the more fitted neckline.

This pattern is a fun, simple and really quick knit in an aran weight yarn. The faux macrame stitch is simple—simpler than cables and much less fussy than bobbles—and it gives such a pretty result. I highly recommend this pattern if you want to play with texture but want a knit that you can whip through without much fuss.

Also, I just want to point out the sleeve decreasing in this pattern, and how it creates some visual interest in the sleeve. I love this little detail!

    Hi Spela,
Have you tried reaching out to the pattern designer? If you’re local to Denver, please come in for one of our Knitting Help nights (check for dates on the class calendar), or we may be able to help during one of our Virtual Knit Nights in a pinch. Otherwise, we recommend checking for pattern Errata, or helpful notes from others that have made the pattern in the same size & collar combination just in case they mention the same issue. Hopefully one of those options helps!

    Hi!
I started on the sweater a couple of days ago and just started the raglan increase (size L). For the life of me I cannot get to the same no. of stitches as envisioned after the 1st increase round. I feel like there is something missing after the end of the macrame motif, because I end up with 154 stitches…
    Is there something I missed?

Thank you for your help. I really like your finished garment!

Well Amber, I’m fully convinced. After putting every shade of Heirloom Romney in my cart to knit this same sweater, I settled on… pink pearl. Your project is perfect. I hope you won’t mind me making the same one!
