Christina's A-Frame Skirt

If you've ever taken a class here at the shop, you may recognize Christina as one of our sewing instructors. She has been teaching with us since the first days of Fancy Tiger and is always inspiring us with her expansive knowledge, yet easy-going sewing ways. She stitched up the newest pattern from Blueprints For Sewing, the A-frame Skirt, in a classic chambray. She'll be teaching it as a class on our fall schedule in September, October and November. This simple skirt can be made as either a swingy a-line or a fitted pencil skirt, and uses angled seams to add interest to the construction.

Pattern: A-Frame (Version 2) by Blueprints For Sewing
Fabric: 1 1/2 yards Chambray Union Lightweight Denim Indigo
Size Made: D

Here is Christina with more about her A-frame skirt:
"This skirt has two cute options, sure to flatter lots of different body shapes, and the design of it is really unique."

"I really enjoy figuring out how a pattern is constructed. It's like a puzzle. And this pattern is put together in a really smart way! The different panels in the skirt can be cut from the same fabric or contrasting fabrics for very different looks. I used the same fabric for all my pieces, but chose to use the "wrong" side of the fabric for a contrasting color panel on the front."

"I love the design feature of the pockets. I had never constructed a pocket in that way before! I'm excited to teach this as a class, which will be great for intermediate sewers--folks who have made a garment or two already and who want to gain more experience with garment construction."

"I'll be wearing this skirt as an everyday option, pairing it with a t-shirt or sweater and boots once the cold weather hits. I would really like to make the pencil skirt style, too! I'm inspired to try this one with a heavier striped fabric, like canvas or ticking, and experiment with the direction of the stripes. Hope I see you in class!"
