Fen Pattern: Becky's Speckled Fen Dress

You may recognize Becky as one of our dear crochet instructors, or perhaps from her projects which we have featured on our blog. She is an amazing crafter who works at our sister shop, Fancy Tiger Clothing. We were flattered that she wanted to test sew our newest pattern, Fen, and we love her fabric choice of almost black, speckled cotton. Here is Becky with more on her Fen dress.

Pattern: Fen by Amber Corcoran for Fancy Tiger Crafts
Version: View B (with round neck and drop hem)
Size Made: 16
Fabric: 3 1/4 yds quilting weight cotton
Modifications: I added elastic to the back waist of the dress to give a little more fit at the waist.

When planning my Fen dress, I wanted to choose a pattern that felt more neutral and would be easy to layer with solids and other patterns. I've been wanting to add more polka dots into my wardrobe and I liked how tiny and organic the polka dots are in this fabric. I found the pattern was very straightforward and easy to follow. Any pattern that doesn't require matching shoulder seams or installing a zipper is a dream for me.

One thing about this dress-I love the pockets! They are very functional and add a nice detail to the front panel.

I've already gotten a lot of wear out of this dress. If I'm gardening at home I just pair it with a nice wide brim hat to shade myself from the sun or if I'm wearing it out in the evening I'll pair it with a braided leather belt to bring in the waist a little. I'll definitely be wearing this dress into the cooler months with some boots and a sweater. I could see making this dress in a heavier weight fabric for the Fall and Winter months to layer with tights and a cardigan or lighter weight for Spring and Summer months.
