Fen Pattern: Jaime's Four Fens!

Mark your calendars for October 2nd: our second ever sewing pattern will be released to the world! Welcome, Fen!!

Amber has been working hard to get this pattern ready for its world debut and we couldn't be more excited about it! Fen is amazing with tons of customizable options. I'm sure you will love it as much as I do. It may seem like we haven't been sewing that much this summer, but as it turns out we've just been busy whipping up Fen after Fen...it's totally addicting. I'll introduce you to my favorite four Fens and you'll soon see why this pattern is so awesome.

Pattern: Fen by Amber Corcoran for Fancy Tiger Crafts
Version: View A with optional Shirt-tail hem and v-neck
Size Made: 4 (for 34" bust)
Fabric: voile dot

View A of Fen is for a casual, boxy top... just like I want to wear every day. This top can be made with two different hem options and two different neckline options. This top is quick to sew since it's only two pieces, but I did get to learn new techniques with the sophisticated v-neck finish. The use of a twin needle adds to the look of the simple yet classic top. This top is going to do great in any fabric with drape so I choose a super lightweight cotton voile for this version. Stay tuned to see all the fabrics we've used for our Fen tops.

View B of Fen is a dress. Yesss. I love wearing this dress so much. The slightly oversized fit makes it easy to get on and off without a closure. The dress features a slightly gathered waist, along with bust and back darts, and pockets. So good. I have sadly only made one dress so far, but I've worn this a ton and can't wait to make another. The Loominous fabric by Anna Maria Horner is a great choice. The dress version can hold up to sturdier fabrics than the top and we've sewn it up in quilting cotton and cotton/linen canvas blends as well - they all look great!

Oh hey, knits. That's right. The top version of Fen also works great in drapey knits. I was so excited about this because it meant I was able to use this awesome print from April Rhodes latest collection, Bound.

This is my final Fen and maybe my Fen masterpiece. I chose to use a drapey bamboo knit on the front and a beautiful lightweight cotton/silk voile from Liberty of London on the back. Dreamtown!

Version: View A with slight drop hem and v-neck
Size Made: 4 (for 34" bust)
Fabric: front is bamboo jersey, back is cotton/silk voile by Liberty of London, Floral Eve A

This top is brilliant for a couple of reasons. For one, I only needed to use 3/4 of a yard of this precious Liberty of London fabric. Also, using a knit on the front makes the shirt have more give and room which can look great on many different body shapes. I love how comfortable this top is. I chose to use the knit as the binding. I made this top using the slightly dropped hem which I also love...so many variations, Fen!

Hooray!! Stay tuned for daily blog posts for the next TEN DAYS featuring all the amazing Fens that we and our test sewers have made!
