Fen Pattern: Sara's Super Styled and Stylish Fen

Sara is an accomplished seamstress and knitter and she teaches garment sewing classes here. We love the way she has styled her Fen!

Sara Cougill Fen Dress

Pattern: Fen by Amber Corcoran for Fancy Tiger Crafts
Version: View B with round neck and dropped hem
Size Made: 12
Fabric: Yarn dyed ticking in Hemp/Cotton
Modifications: I left the edges of the sleeves raw - the shape of the bodice/sleeve means that the edges of the sleeves are on the bias, so they will fray slightly, but not catastrophically.

I love stripes and natural fibers! And I'm obsessed with horizontal bodice stripes with vertical skirt stripes. I fell in love with this stripes cotton/hemp fabric when I saw it. My favorite part of making this was all of it, but using the stripes in two different directions made me super happy!

What is your favorite part of this dress? POCKETS! That are useable! I seriously find myself actually putting my hands in my pockets all the time when I wear this dress. Not to mention all the random stuff I find in my pockets at the end of the day. I'm dying to make one in jersey + silk or another woven like Jaime & Jess did! I also think the dress would be AWESOME in a thicker knit - such as our French terrys.

Tell us about how you've styled your Fen: For summer (and again for spring): just throw on a pair of cute sandals and you're good to go! For fall: with a wrap belt and a denim vest. For winter: with that wrap belt (again/always) and a cute cardigan. Or, throw on some leggings and boots with the dress and cardigan and I'll be good for even colder weather!

Thanks Sara!
