Paper Pieced Hexie

I love to English Paper Piece but one of the drawbacks is that it can take a large chunk of time to produce a finished piece, depending on the size of the project. The beauty of this pillow is that there is no hand sewing! You just make your pieces and stitch them onto your backing fabric and a few steps later, voila! You have a new pillow for your couch.

Heather Beckman's Modern Hexie Pillow

I used pre-cut hexagon paper pieces rather than cutting my own, mostly because I already had them. When it was time to figure out placement of the hexies on the backing fabric, I just held them all in my hands over my fabric and sprinkled them down. I pinned them in place, quilted them down, and sewed my envelope enclosure.

Monder Handcraft Hexie Pillow made from Cotton + Steel Basics

I chose a few of the Cotton and Steel Basics and of course, something sparkly! As new fabrics come in to the store, I'm already planning in my head which ones I want to use for new pillows. The possibilities are endless - fussy cutting cute little creatures, holiday color palettes, a million different layouts of hexie patterns and even using shapes other hexagons...diamonds, triangles, etc!
