Jaime's Jo Dress in a stunning tiger fabric

When you own a store called Fancy Tiger, and one of your favorite fabric designers creates a stunning tiger rayon fabric, you know you have to make something. Welcome this most sunshiney yellow Jo dress!

Pattern: Jo Dress from Seamwork Mag
Fabric: Tiger Fly Rayon in Yellow designed by Sarah Watts for Ruby Star Society
Buttons: Quartz buttons in Cobalt
Size Made: 6
Modifications: none

We received this fabric ahead of its release and so we polled our Instagram followers for pattern ideas. I'm glad we did that, because the Seamwork Jo was not on my radar and I absolutely love it!

The silhouette is perfectly casual, but the collar and button placket with gathered shoulders makes it feel a bit fancy. I love it.

I sewed this the week before we had to close the store due to coronovirus. It was an extremely stressful week as we could all see the path we were headed down. I think I dealt with quite a bit of my stress that week by making this dress. Having something to focus on that I was good at, and I could control was just the thing I needed in between team meetings and watching the news.

Overall the pattern is well written. A burrito yoke creates neat and tidy enclosed seams. It fits great in the shoulders and arm scythe - the only place where fit might be an issue.

This rayon is the perfect summer dress fabric - in both weight and color! I hope that we are able to meet with friends again soon, because I'd love to wear this dress out to a backyard gathering. Oh the dreams! I hope sewing is bringing you some stress relief these days as well!

Lauren, Thank You! Yes to prewash and dry – cold water wash, delicate dry. Have fun!

Hi! Beautiful dress :) i bought the same fabric in the blue tiger, but i’ve never sewed with Rayon. I’m trying to figure out how to approach washing it/prepping the fabric. Did you prewash/dry or will this be a dry clean outfit?

    Thank you!!

I’ve been thinking of you guys a lot lately – this must be such a huge hurdle for a small business! I hope you, Amber, and your team are all doing okay. I agree that sewing has been a huge gift and solace lately. I’m so grateful to have projects to work on during this time of isolation. Your dress is wonderful, such a great use of an AWESOME fabric!
