Katy's Gifty Amaro Mitts

I haven't made my boyfriend Rich anything in awhile, so when I saw Loop's Amaro Mitts pattern in Brooklyn Tweed Arbor float by my Ravelry, I knew I wanted to make him a pair for Valentine's Day. He's a video gamer, so his hands get super cold while he's killing monsters in dungeons, and then he comes to bed with his ice cube hands, so clearly this was a problem I could solve!

Pattern: Amaro Mitts by Craig Rosenfeld
Materials: 1 skein each of Brooklyn Tweed Arbor in Sashiko and Alizarin
Needles: US 4 and 6 dpns
Size made: Large

These fingerless mitts are the perfect simple, quick project. The pattern comes in two sizes and is perfectly styled for guys or gals. The purl gusset is easy but looks great, and I always love color blocking!

The mitts take just two skeins of Arbor, and I really liked knitting with it. It's got a great bounce, and the definition on the purl gusset is lovely. Plus, there's a huge palette of colorways, so I had lots of options to choose from! I ended up with Sashiko and Alizarin, Rich wears his navy "fancy hat" a lot so I thought Sashiko would match nicely, and Alizarin gives it some pop.

I did a tubular cast on and bind off for some stretchy ribbing, but otherwise followed the pattern. You can probably get two mitt sets out of two skeins by reversing the colors, especially if you made two small sizes.

Rich is quite pleased with his new mitts and has taken up wearing them everywhere, including while driving, so I think I have a happy boyfriend! If you have a loved one who needs warm hands, I definitely recommend picking up some Arbor and getting to the knitting.
