Kaylee's Schwimmen Hat

Shannon Cook's Schwimmen hat is all the rage at Fancy Tiger right now! It seems like everybody is making their own version of it, and I was more than happy to hop on the bandwagon. This effortlessly elegant, slouchy hat looks great on everybody and is a joy to knit up.

Pattern: Schwimmen by Shannon Cook from the Seasonless: Mini Collection, Volume 1
Yarn: 1 skein of Dovestone DK in Yorkstone
Modifications: None

I’m so happy that I choose Dovestone DK for this project. This yarn is very unique. It has just enough drape to handle the slouch of the hat, but is robust enough to hold the lace pattern and really show it off. Before I even started knitting I knew that the pattern and the yarn were a match made in heaven. However, I was completely caught off guard by how soft the yarn was after blocking. It was squishy and cozy in a way that I was not expecting at all and it was such a wonderful surprise.

Dovestone DK has some really beautiful colorways so deciding which to use was undeniably difficult. In the end, I went with the very lovely, soft grey Yorkstone because I wanted to be able to wear it with anything and everything and I have not been disappointed for a second. I'm still completely obsessed with the colorway Filey though and I'm sure it will make its way on to my needles some day.

This hat knit up so fast. It was fun to see the pattern unfold so I was always excited to knit another row. Plus, it requires the perfect amount of attention. Definitely not a boring knit, but the pattern isn’t so difficult that you have to sit in a silent room and give each stitch your undivided attention. I can see myself knitting many more of these and I probably will with the holidays quickly approaching.

The pattern recommends using the magic loop method to finish the hat. This was my first time trying magic loop instead of using double pointed needles and I have to say it was nothing short of life-changing. I have never been a huge fan of DPN’s and I am so glad that I took the plunge and learned something new. Now all of my tiny round knits will be so much more enjoyable.
