Lauren Loves Laine

It's no secret to anyone who knows me that I am in love with everything about Laine Magazine. It's so hard not to go crazy for their patterns and gorgeous aesthetic. I love the Nordic feel and the articles about designers and different types of yarn. I have made several projects from each issue, but this one might just be my favorite.

I have never been good (or even decent) at colorwork. It's always been my 'white whale' of the knitting world. I feel such envy when I see finished projects with perfect floats and tension. I decided to rectify this by forcing myself to practice. I can't exactly say I started with the easiest pattern but knit big or go home!

One of my favorite things about this sweater was that it's knit top down. I appreciated the fact that the yoke (aka the most intimidating part) was first so I could tackle it right away. The chart was very simple to follow and didn't require trapping as many floats as I initially feared. I will say that the Léttlopi is amazing for colorwork. The wool is more "sticky" than others and it helps keep the yarn from being too slippery, allowing for a more even tension.

I was surprised at how easily the yoke section went and it definitely gave me a confidence boost. The rest of the pattern was straightforward and simple. It was nice to have some mindless knitting after all the chart reading!

I really, really love the way this sweater turned out. When I went to Iceland a couple of years ago I wanted to buy a Lopi sweater so badly, but I refused because "I can just make one". I kept waiting for the right pattern to motivate me and I couldn't have asked for anything better. Thanks, Laine!
