Lauren's Les Fleurs Wedding Robes

This past October, after 1.5 years of planning and organizing, I got married! My now-husband, Michael, and I decided to force all of our out of state friends and family to fly to Colorado and spend the weekend with us. My two best friends were flying out to be in the wedding and I knew I wanted to have a special gift for them that was handmade. Robes seemed like the perfect thing and I had the perfect fabric in mind.

The first time I saw the Rifle Paper fabric, I knew I wanted the rayon line for my robes and I couldn't consider anything else. I got the fabric the day it arrived and set to work. The fabric itself was a dream to sew with. It was a little slippery when cutting the pattern pieces, but once I got it on the sewing machine it was heaven. Using a rayon did alter the structure of the robes slightly.

I decided to add 7" to the length since we would be wearing these while getting ready and the sample from Seamwork seemed a bit short. I had never made robes before so I definitely spent a lot of time trying each of them on as I went to make sure the fit was right. In order to get the neck to lay flat I had to shave off about 1.5" inches from the tops of the shoulder on my front pieces. I also opted to save myself some time and cut the back piece on the fold so I wouldn't have to seam them together later on. I loved the way the rayon provided drape to these robes!

I would love to make another Almada robe in something cozier like a flannel. I was so pleased with the way the robes turned out and I think my bridesmaids were too. It was definitely a process to get the right fit, but I would do it all over again!
