Tweedy Playdate Cardigan

Pretty much the moment we opened the box of new Colorado dyed tweed sock yarn from Hue Loco, this adorable little grandma sweater was born. At 85% Superwash Merino and 15% Donegal Tweed this soft and stable tweedy yarn is a fantastic new option to spice up your sock yarn collection. Might we recommend you jump into a little grandpa or grandma sweater of your own though. We dare you to find a more adorable model than baby Elowyn.

The Playdate Cardigan was an ideal opportunity to experiment with how this nubby fingering weight knits up! Basically what I learned is that this yarn is a dream. It is soft and shiny with amazing drape plus a sturdy 4-ply and striking brown and black tweedy bits. Also, did I mention that it is machine washable?!?

While knitting this up I couldn't help but reminisce about old Mister Rogers' sweaters. The pattern is a simple, classic design and includes instructions for sizes ranging from 0-3 months up to adult 4XL. Talk about a universal pattern! You could make one for every person you know (if they're lucky enough!).

I really appreciate garment projects that require very little seaming, so the construction of this cardigan was a breeze. It is knit in one piece from hem to underarm, then the fronts and back are separated and each is worked separately. The sleeves are picked up and worked to the cuff, then finally the button band is picked up and worked last. Easy breezy!

If you're looking for a straightforward cardigan pattern, this is it! I was very pleased with how clear and precise the instructions were. The button band does require a bit of math as you decipher your own pick up stitch count. I will admit I was wrong with my count more than once! Definitely apply the old adage ‘measure twice, cut once’ to save yourself some time and grief on this step and you will be all set.
