Caitlin's Twice as Nice Double Zip Box Pouches

Caitlin's handsewn double zip pouches
My nieces recently turned two and I wanted to make them something special for the occasion. I had already sewn up the tiny mice from Heather Ross' Trixie & Thomas line (the panel is sadly out of stock), but thought it would be fun to make a personalized pouch to store them in.

I settled on one of Aneela Hoey's patterns, the Double Zip Box Pouch. A friend suggested just making one, because they'd each have half of the pouch, but I couldn't resist double the fun!
Hand Sew Double Zipper Box Pouch sewing pattern reviewPattern: Double Zip Box Pouch by Aneela Hoey
Size Made: Small
Fabric: Trixie & Thomas prints mixed with Double Check Yarn Dyed in Cantaloupe , Essex for handles
Additional supplies: 9" zippers (shortened to 8"), SF101Shape-Flex, Fusible Fleece

Most of the fabrics I used are from the Trixie & Thomas line, which of course match the mice perfectly. I added a check from Harriot Yarn Dyed collection and used Essex for the handles. I personalized each handle with their names and a heart. My machine can sew letters, but these would be just as cute (maybe cuter?!) if the names were hand-embroidered.
double zipper pouch sewing pattern reviewI've made a few of Aneela's patterns now, and they always turn out great. Trust the pattern! Aneela is a pouch genius and writes very clear instructions. My only recommendation is to not worry too much about what the lining looks like. There's a point where you are basically boxing three corners at once (the top corners of the two linings + the top exterior corner of the pouch). Don't fuss over the linings at this point - just sew it up and move on, because no one knows what the inside looks like since all of the seams are hidden!

These pouches are great to hold little toys! One of my nieces said "pretty" when she got her present, which of course melted my heart. I've been told they say goodnight to their mice and put them "to bed" in their pouches.

Beautiful pouches. What pattern did you use for the nice? They are adorable.
