Britney's Alexandra Tall Socks

Several of us at the shop just finished a staff knit-along, a loosely themed KAL with the goal of trying out and getting to know some of the newest yarns in the store. I have been enamored with Sincere Sheep's Cormo Fingering yarn since we began carrying it a few months ago. I decided the squishy yarn would be perfect for some cozy house socks!

Pattern: Alexandra Tall Socks by Pam Allen in Home
Yarn: 1 skein Sincere Sheep Cormo Fingering in Vitamin C
Size Made: one size
Modifications: used smaller yarn and needle size to make a smaller size, added back loops

I purchased the Home book by Pam Allen shortly after it hit the floor. I love all the cozy patterns and was so happy we hosted the trunk show for the book. I was able to see all the pattern samples in person, including these socks. The socks shown in the book are made to fit size 8 1/2 women's foot, which would've swallowed my size 6 1/2 foot. Instead of altering any part of the actual pattern, I chose to work with fingering weight yarn and go down a couple needle sizes to size US4 needles in hopes the finished socks would fit my tiny feet. And ta-da! They fit perfectly!

The Alexandra Tall Socks use a squishy fisherman's rib stitch pattern for extra cush and warmth, which is amplified even more by the lofty Cormo wool. I will be wearing these guys around the house to keep my toesies warm this winter.

Miranda had the great idea of adding a loop to the back so I could hang them right by my front door, keeping them together and away from my wool-stealing kitties!

All this week and next we will be featuring some of our recent knits in new yarns. Stay tuned for Sarah's darling Mam sweater in the Fibre Co's newest Cumbria yarn tomorrow!
