Amber's Hamlin Peak Cardigan

Warm weather knitting is in the air, and everyone has been inspiring me with their summery knitting! I decided to join in the fun and get my hands on some linen yarn and make the Hamlin Peak Cardigan. This drapey cardigan promised to be a quick knit, and sure enough, it only took me two weeks from cast on to bind off! It's also perfect for the cool spring we've been having.

Pattern: Hamlin Peak by Pam Allen
Yarn: Quince & Co Kestrel - 10 skeins of color Turtle (available in store)
Size Made: 36
Modifications: None

I cast on for my Hamlin Peak with a strict deadline in mind. I had twenty days before my sister's wedding and I thought it would be perfect. The turtle colorway coordinated perfectly with the Nani Iro dress I planned to wear. I decided that was plenty of time to make this. Twenty days, ten balls of yarn. If I could just knit one ball every two days I'd be golden. That's just 38 yards a day! No problem.

I have fallen in love with my new Hamlin Peak cardigan! Since finishing it, I have worn it almost every day. Pam Allen's pattern is beautiful in its simplicity. The straightforward top-down design increases on the center edge at the same rate throughout the pattern, making it easy to keep track of while creating the angular and draped triangular front. Kestrel, the worsted weight linen tape yarn from Quince & Co, has an amazing drape and it really makes the unique shape of this cardigan work.

Raglan shoulder shaping adds to the easy construction, making this speedy pattern perfect for someone new to garment knitting, or a great mindless project for the more experienced knitter. The back of Hamlin Peak has just a bit of waist shaping which gives it a flattering fit.

My favorite part, of course, is the adorable little curled bit at the front of the cardigan. It reminds me of sweet little snail shells and creates a sophisticated, long silhouette.

The cardigan looked amazing with my dress for Emily's wedding (more on that soon) and pairs just as great with jeans. This is going to be a wardrobe staple for sure!
